Triple Sec is one of the most confusing keto alcohols and one that I’m asked about most. Why? Because Margarita sare amazing and we all want keto Margarita.
Triple Cec is a sweet orange-flavored liquor with an alcohol content of 20 to 25%. It’s primarily used as a mixer with other alcohols to create cocktails
It is most famously an ingredient in quality margaritas.
How Many Carbs Are In Triple Sec?
As stated above, Triple Sec is sweet and that sweetness comes from sugar. And as you know, sugar is pure carbs.
A single shot (1.5 fluid ounces) of Triple Sec has 11 grams of carbohydrates and no fiber.
Is Triple Sec Keto Friendly?
Triple Sec is not keto friendly. With 11 grams of carbohydrates in a single shot consuming Triple Sec will quickly use all of allotted carbs for the day.
But just because traditional Triple Sec isn’t keto friendly doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy low carb margaritas and other keto cocktails.
You are just going to have to decide if you want to make your own Triple Sec or buy a sugar-free triple sec.
Of course, I think the DIY Triple Sec is the better options so let’s start there.
Make Your Own Low Carb Triple Sec – A Keto Triple Sec Recipe
Triple sec is a flavored liqueur and we can easily make those. We just got to get the flavors right.
We’ll start with the main flavor, orange and we’ll get that from dried orange peels because they store better and I’m less likely to eat the carb-heavy orange if I don’t have to peel it.
Now we should note that there are some carbs in lemon peels. A tablespoon of dried orange peel there is 1.5 grams of carbs, but that’s if you eat it.
Since we are just using it to make an infusion and then discard the orange peel, I have to believe the carbs we are adding is negligible.
Then will liven the flavor profile with lemon, and we’ll get that from dried lemon peels.
For the booze, we’ll use vodka. Vodka is a great keto booze that is zero carb.
And for making infusions, it’s perfect because it’s nearly tasteless.
However, vodka is pretty boozy usually having 40% or more alcohol. That’s not a show stopper, it just means we need to cut the alcohol with water to get closer to that 20 to 25% number usually found in Triple Sec.
Easy Keto Triple Sec Recipe

Keto Triple Sec Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Dried Orange Peels
- 1 Tbsp Dried Lemon Peels
- 2 Cups Vodka
- 2 Cups Water
- 1 Cup Swerve Sweetener To Taste
Instructions
- Put the vodka and the water into a clean masson jar with a good lid.
- Add the dried orange and lemon peel to the jar. You can just dump it in and plan to strain it out later, or you can put it in a tea ball or tea bag. Or you can make a little pouch out of cheese cloth to contain it.
- Put the lid on and place it out of direct sunlight for at least two weeks. During those two weeks, give it a good shake each time you notice it.
- After two weeks, remove the orange and lemon peel and add the Swerve Sweetener to your taste.
- Drink up!

Best Sugar Free Triple Sec You Can Buy
Okay, first thing you need to know is that this sugar-free syrup is not only sugar-free but alcohol-free. That’s not a big thing, you might just need to adjust the keto cocktail recipes below.
My personal favorite keto Triple Sec Syrup brand is Monin which is available on Amazon. { Click Here to see it on Amazon. >>> }

It’s not ideal, but then again drinking alcohol while trying to lose weight isn’t ideal. They make this syrup sweet by using sugar alcohols which isn’t a bad as real sugar, but it can cause some people problems staying in ketosis.
Try it, but do it as an experiment and see how you react to it.
